Thank a Veteran!

Veterans Day | November 11, 2022

This November 11th, take designated time to thank a Veteran.

Veterans Day began in 1954.  The United States declared November 11th as "Veterans Day" to honor all of our Veterans in all U. S. Wars.

I have learned that Veterans do not seek the spotlight, they truly serve without expectation.   But, we should be expectant and carve time to thank any and all servicemen and women who have given us our freedoms.

Here are 7 heartfelt, yet impactful actions we can do to thank a Veteran this Friday:

1.  Hug them.   Just walk right up and ask if you could give them a hug and say a hearty, "Thank you!" for their years of service.

2. Offer to take a Veteran to lunch or dinner.   So many restaurant establishments offer a free appetizer or soda, if not a complete meal, to Veterans on November 11th (remind Veterans they will need to show their military ID).

3.  Text a Veteran and simply state, "I am thankful for you and your years of service.  On this Veterans Day, I did not want to let it pass without telling you."

4.  On Friday, call a Veteran to remind them that it is National Veterans Day.  Let them know you were thinking of them, and thank them for their service.

5.  On Friday, write a card and have your child/ren draw a picture to place inside, then mail it to a Veteran letting them know you thought of them and wanted to let them know you and your kids appreciate them.

6.  Attend or participate in a Veterans Day Parade.  If you go to my Macaroni KID Events Calendar, you will see a few Veterans Day events and/or parades being offered over the weekend.

7.  Attend a Veterans Day Ceremony.  Your City Manager can tell you what events the City may be planning to honor our Vets.  Volunteers are welcomed to assist the City in it's organized events by placing small American flags by the headstones of Veterans who have served and died.

I know for me, my husband served in the Air Force for 30 years and I am privileged to hug him daily, but I also plan to thank him especially on Friday, November 11th, Veterans Day, for his sacrifice and service during those 30 years of service.  We also have dinner reservations to the Grand Opening of Lago Mar's Blue Lagoon American Bar and Grill in Texas City, where he will receive his appreciation appetizer from the establishment.

If you are reading this and are a Veteran, let me humbly say how I appreciate you and all you have done to make our Country great.  Thank you.
